Outreach
In our diocese, here in Canada, outreach might look a bit different than in other parts of the world. We have a colder climate than most of the BEC dioceses, so we are quite hampered through the winter months though we still have outreach opportunities around Christmastime.
We generally conduct our outreach in a few ways. The first way is that we create an event where we invite our local community to come to the grounds of the parish for a family fun day, or a free meal and then show them who we are and demonstrate Christ’s love towards them. We also invite local officials such as councillors, police officers, fire department etc. Some of our events have been Easter Egg hunts, Canada Day breakfasts, Fall Fun days etc.
The second way is to look for already existing events and to ask to have a booth at them. We have done this for the Strawberry Festival, the Apple Festival and the Pumpkin Festival and we are open to participating in more community events.
A third way that we reach out to our community is by going door to door asking our neighbours how we can pray for them and inviting them to spend time with us. We do this in cooperation with the other local churches in our vicinity. We desire to work alongside all believers so that the Church can be built up in unity and in love.
